Frank Bauer, Munich Photographer
Munich is my home, this is where I live with my wife, our two daughters and our dog. From here I work for international and regional clients. I spent 8 years living and working in London. The time there had a huge impact on me and changed my way of working and appreciation of different worlds since since completing my degree at Staatliche Fachakademie for Fotodesing in Munich.

Staged campaigns, artists’ portraits, craft documentaries or workshop visits - a trusting atmosphere in which people who are rarely in front of the camera feel comfortable is the basis of my work. Communication before and during the photo shoot is very important to me, it creates a a personal relationship and is a big part of the overall process. This is how I establish a connection, get to know my subject and can translate personal characteristics and ideas into visual language, whether for artists’ portraits or company profiles, personal close-ups, documentation of working of the working world or staged group shots.
The Munich Philharmonic Orchestra is just as close to my heart as the winegrower in the Oberpfalz.

I enjoy bringing together all the essentials crucial for a shoot: the unique and the essential as well as adherence to the customer briefing and effective time management. Unbiased attentiveness, precision, perseverance and patience are just as important to me as empathy and the ability to improvise. I like working in a studio with a large team, working on a lighting plan and creating the right environment for a client. But I also really enjoy filming or photographing on location on my own, with more time. Different projects have different needs.

In addition to my photography and film work, I am part of FOTODOKS collective, a group of 5, which curates and organises the 'Festival for Contemporary Documentary Photography' in Munich every two years.
I have also been teaching photography with a particular focus on portrait photography and photojournalism at the Faculty of Design at Munich’s University of Applied Sciences on a semester basis since 2018.

My aim and the basis of my work is to engage in dialogue.
