Dein SPIEGELA relic from Celtic times and christianized by Saint Nicholas, Perchten are wild figures in fur, hung with bells. They are said to drive out the evil spirits of winter. Until today, Perchtenläufe take place in German-speaking Alpine regions, in particular during the so called Rauhnächte, those 12 days between Christmas Eve and Epiphany. A group that takes part in a Perchtenlauf is called a 'Pass'. The Rupolding Pass traditionally runs through the village around St. Nicholas' Day on 6 December and visits the local families.
